Jahrhundert als zweitgrößter Herrschaftssitz Mainfrankens galt. Ab 1542 diente die Anlage dem Hochstifts Würzburg bis zur Säkularisation als Amtsburg. Von 1822 bis 1901 war das Schloss im Besitz der Schweinfurter Familie Sattler, die hier u.a. eine Tapetenfabrik betrieb. 1915 erwarb der Großindustrielle Ernst Sachs den Ansitz und ließ ihn von dem Münchner Architekten Franz Rank im Stil des Späthistorismus zu einer Industriellenvilla ausbauen, sodass hier auch die High Society-Persönlichkeit Gunter Sachs, ehemals verheiratet mit Brigitte Bardot, das Licht der Welt erblickte. Heute eröffnet die denkmalgeschützte Schlossanlage vielfältige Nutzungsmöglichkeiten, welche in Absprache mit den zuständigen Behörden realisiert werden können. The historic traces of the castle – with its characteristic outer bailey, ring wall and keep – date back to the 13th century. In the years 1480 - 1486, Margarete von Henneberg had the late Gothic residential buildings extended into a representative castle complex with three stepped gables, making Mainberg Castle the second largest manor house in Main-Franconia in the 15th century. From 1542 until the secularization in 1803, the complex served as an official castle for the religious authorities of Würzburg. From 1822 to 1901, the castle was owned by the Sattler family from Schweinfurt, who set up a wallpaper factory here, among other things. In 1915, the industrial magnate Ernst Sachs acquired the estate and had it converted into an industrialist's villa in the style of late historicism by the Munich architect Franz Rank. It was here that the high society personality Gunter Sachs, married to Brigitte Bardot, was born.
